  • Notes
    • In 2002, Karen Struve said that David was in some financial difficulty in Belfast, Ireland and was forced to lease some commercial property on York Street to meet his obligations. He leased the property for 80 years to John Patton (possibly his father-in-law). Karen has a copy of this deed. Her grandmother, Mary Culbert, who was quite an adventurous lady for her times, made the trip to Belfast to claim the family's property at the end of the lease. She wrote a couple of very good letters to Karen's grandfather while she was there, which Karen has. Her grandmother was a little evasive when it came to disclosing exactly what she accomplished over there. She had several "old maid" aunts in Lindsay, Ontario, who were helping finance her stay in Ireland. According to Karen's great grandmother, the Culberts and the Gourleys were instrumental in establishing Lindsay. There are some references to Culbertson in family notes, but the names on the deeds dated 1816 were definitely Culbert. [7]
    • There is a book on Lindsay, Ontario by Gabriele Wills, 2003, "A Place To Call Home." Although the book is fiction, it is based on factual history from 1832 to 1875. The town is called Launston Mills in the book, but in actuality it is Lindsay, Ontario. Karen Struve has researched a bit and found it to be very close to factual. [7]
