"To all the Culberts,
I have written so seldom in the past year or so that some of you may not know how I fit in. I wish my news today could be happy. I am feeling very sad. My niece, Ardyth Culbert Negrete died today at the home of her daughter, Anna Mondragon, in Toluca, Mexico. Ardyth was the younger daughter of my brother, Homer Culbert (John N. - Stephen - Matthew Sr.). She was 61 years old, and she died of cancer. Though she had been in frail health for some time, her last illness was brief. She met Leopoldo Negrete when he was a graduate student at one of the Kansas colleges, and they were married here. Soon thereafter they went to Mexico, his home, where they lived for thirty or thirty five years, minus four years in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Much of their life in Mexico was in Mexico City and Toluca, but I think they were in Merida for a time. They had seven children. When the youngest was eighteen, Ardyth returned to Oklahoma City and was here four or five years. After getting some needed medical care, she worked for Hobby Lobby. Shortly after her mother (Gladna) died in October 2004, she returned to Mexico. We last saw her in October, 2005, when she returned for the funeral of Judy, the wife of her brother, William John Culbert."
