  • Notes
    • Mary CULBERT married James COLEMAN in 1866. Sometime later they divorced. I now know he was married a second time but am just now investigating that. He died in Rochester New York in 1892. I found his burial place last year. She later marrd Abner Morris STUCKERT in 1890 in Denver, CO. He was a very accomplished architect who has buildings on the Historic Register in Denver. If you put "A M Stuckert" in google you will be able to see the houses and business buildings on the register. I believe he died in poverty because of the depression in the 1890's. He is the "papa" she refers to in the letter. The children were his from a previous marriage. Mary COLEMAN STUCKERT was quite well known as a feminist with a "grand scheme" she touted all around the world. I have found her name referenced in 6 books to date. If you put "coleman stuckert" in Google you will see the hits. She also divorced/left STUCKERT by 1900. He lived out his days with his housekeeper. I think she also died without much fanfare on 15 May 1920 in Los Angeles, CA. I found her in Honolulu, Hawaii in Feb of 1920. She was quite ill with heart disease by that time and couldn't get passage home because of WWI. All passenger ships had been cancelled out of Hawaii for the war effort. Funny thing is; she was a very absent mother to her own children and yet she lectured all around the world about improving the status of the housewife. My grandfather, Willie COLEMAN adored her and yet he ran away from home at the age of 12 and never went back. She had left him with his older brother, Frank and his wife. Frank's wife put my grandfather in diapers to discipline him and that was the end of that. My grandfather grew to be a very quiet but respectable man who was adored by all his grandchildren and children. He was stern but fair.
