- TERRIBLE ACCIDENT - About 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, David, son of James Grier, grocer, No. 387 Market street, met with a frightful accident, which, it is feared, will cause his death. He had been out upon the roof of one of the back buildings of his father's house, fixing his pidgeon[sic] coops, and in returning into the garret of the main building, through a dormer window, he slipped, and fell into the yard below, immediately at the rear of the store, the distance of some forty feet. The lad struck upon the brick pavement, and probably hit the stone capping of the wall of the cellar area, which he barely missed falling into. He was conveyed to the Hospital, and on making an examination there, it was discovered that he had received a compound fracture of the skull over the eye, a simple fracture of the left arm, and a compound fracture of the left arm, at the elbow. The location of the fracture of the skull is highly dangerous, and if he recovers, he will more than likely, lose his left arm. The sufferer is between 12 and 13 years old.
Note: He survived the accident, but lost his arm.
