- Elaine Marie Hickok, 79, wife of Stanley George Hickok, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2016 surrounded by her family. Elaine was born in November of 1936 in Albany, NY to the late Truman C. and Margaret (Redden) Groff. She graduated Roessleville High School in 1954 and went on to attend Burroughs Calculating School. Upon completion there, Elaine took a job at the State Dept. of Taxation & Finance. In December of 1955, Elaine married Stanley George Hickok at Our Lady of Mercy Church. She left the working world in 1956 to raise the first of her six girls. Elaine was a kind, generous, supportive mom who made each of her girls feel unique and special. She was a great role model as a mom and an active volunteer. Elaine was a long standing Girl Scout Leader, acknowledged for her years of participation. Elaine was also a member of many organizations including the Rosary Society of St. John the Evangelist, the Colonie Columbiettes and Law Order and Justice. After 30 years at home with her girls, Elaine moved back into the working world where she could put her nurturing skills to good use as a home health aide. Elaine was a caring and compassionate advocate for the people in her care. Elaine was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Truman C. Groff. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Stanley George Hickok; daughters, Susan (John) Pollock, Judith (Anthony) Marconi, Nancy (William) Tudor, Sally (Thomas) CULBERT, Theresa (Joseph) Luby and Christina (Brian) Burch; as well as 14 grandchildren and Elaine's two brothers, Roger and David (Diane). Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral which will begin Friday, May 6 at 10:15 a.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. The family wishes to thank Kingsway Arms for their compassionate care of Elaine these past months.
