PATRICK PAT CULVERT[sic] 82, resident of Santa Fe, passed away March 28, 2013.  Pat was a great storyteller who was a longtime lover of opera, the Arizona Wildcats basketball team, and donuts.  He was a professor of Archeology at the University of Arizona for 36 years.  Pat specialized in Mayan Civilization and was active in field work for 50 years.  He is survived by his wife, Bobbi Culbert of Santa Fe; son, Chris Culbert (Terri) of Houston, TX; son, Martin Culbert (Julie Sutherland) of Seattle, WA; son, Mike Culbert (Paula) of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Trish Culbert (Beth Hillman) of Berkeley, CA; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandsons; sister, Kathryn Culbert and brother, Eddie Culbert.  A service celebrating Pat's life will be at the Rivera Family Chapel in Santa Fe on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 2 p.m.  "Que le vaya bien, Pat"

      "An airborne radar survey over the dense rain forest of Guatemala has led archeologists to the discovery of an elaborate network of ancient canals. This is

      considered the first strong evidence that the Maya civilization had a relatively advanced agriculture...Last February, Dr. Adams and another archeologist, Dr. T.

      Patrick Culbert of the University of Arizona, went to Guatemala to see if they could find on the ground what the radar had seen from an altitude of 28,000 feet. They traveled into the jungle in jeeps and dugout canoes, and they found the narrow ditches under the jungle growth. The ditches are 10 feet wide and about two

      feet deep..."
