- CRESCO - Memorial services for Charlotte O. Culbert of Cresco were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Cresco. Interment was held in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco. Friends were to call on Sunday from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco and one hour before services at the church. Charlotte, 92, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco. Charlotte Olga Culbert was born Aug. 22, 1919, in rural Saude, Iowa, the daughter of Henry Oliver and Clara (Vaala) Borlaug. She attended local schools and graduated from Cresco High School. The following two years she taught country school in New Oregon Township near Saude. On June 2, 1940, she married Leonard C. Culbert at the Saude Lutheran Church. Charlotte was a homemaker, director of the Peter Pan Daycare before her retirement. She enjoyed many activities and clubs including United Methodist Church, UMW, teaching Sunday school, the Oak Lawn Cemetery Association, Howard County Historical Society, 20th Century Club, the Cedar Falls Retired School Personal and visiting with her many friends. Charlotte lived her entire life in Howard County except for a few months after marriage. It was said that Charlotte and Leonard not only raised crops and livestock on their farm northwest of Cresco but lots of love. Survivors include a daughter: Jeannine Horton of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two sons: Rodney and his wife Patricia of Warsaw, Minn. and L. B. "Bud" and his wife Sherry of Granite Shoals, Texas; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband: Leonard in 1997; a son-in-law: David Horton in 2012; her parents; a brother: Norman Borlaug; and a sister Palma Behrens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation, Cresco United Methodist Church or Saude Lutheran Church.
